FINAL SCIENTIFIC REPORT

Foreword to COAST3D Final Volume of Summary Papers
(Report TR121, May 2001)

It is my pleasure to present this Volume of Summary Papers, which provides a compilation of the principal results of the COAST3D project, undertaken in the framework of the EC-sponsored Marine Science and Technology Programme (MAST III). Together with a set of synthesis reports and papers, and data-bases of the field measurements gathered, this volume constitutes the Final Scientific Report of COAST3D.

COAST3D consisted of six principal topics, related to the two contrasting sites studied:

  • 2.5D measurements (Egmond)

  • 2.5D modelling (Egmond)

  • 3D measurements (Teignmouth)

  • 3D modelling (Teignmouth)

  • Data management

  • Coastal Zone Management Tools

The papers have been ordered in sections accordingly, with the last two combined. Each section has a synthesis paper as its last paper. An overview of the whole project is given at the beginning. The CZM Tools topic is presented in a separate report aimed at end users, available here.

These short papers summarise the scientific achievements of the project, but they are necessarily brief because of space limitations. The results are described in greater detail in nearly 80 technical reports, conference papers and peer-reviewed journal papers. The reference lists of the summary papers guide the reader to these more detailed publications. The full List of Outputs is given on the publications page.

I hope this volume will give its readers an insight into the main outputs of this extremely interesting, challenging and productive project.

On behalf of the COAST3D Steering Committee,

Richard Soulsby
(coordinator)

This Volume of Summary Papers summarises the main results of the COAST3D project over its duration October 1997 to March 2001. The report as a whole should be cited as:
