Young Professionals work to accelerate SDGs

As part of our commitment to living and working sustainably with water, we’ve sent a team to the UN Global Compact’s SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals.

The programme is an opportunity offered to UN Global Compact network companies as a way to drive business innovation that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The nine-month programme is designed to get young leaders involved in delivering tangible solutions with potential market and social value for their company.

At their first camp the team started to identify a specific challenge for HR Wallingford that will accelerate reaching the SDGs.

Through cross-company brainstorming sessions, they delved into the challenges faced by various industries, gaining valuable insights.

Subsequently, they were given several tasks, including: exploring where the risks and opportunities exist for us in relation to the SDGs; pinpointing impacts in our value chain; and identifying potential topics for the HR Wallingford challenge.

Anis Nasser, engineer at HR Wallingford, said: ‘It was great to discover how the SDGs affect people from other industries. It really helped us to think differently about how we can identify and meet challenges here at HR Wallingford. I’m very excited to go to the next camp and continue the work.’
