Print this pageDredging Research, HR Wallingford’s dredging and reclamation group, was formed in October 2007, by the combination of existing in-house capability and the acquired experience and expertise of the independent specialist firm Dredging Research Limited (DRL).
Extensive knowledge and experience in dredging and disposal
Dredging, reclamation and the relocation of dredged materials are major forms of construction activity in the marine environment. Associated with these works are necessary design and environmental considerations. Dredging Research has the capability to guide clients through the development process, from inception of dredging works to completion, in an environmentally suitable manner. Our philosophy is aligned with the modern concept of building with nature.
We provide consultancy, research and advisory services to clients involved in:
- the development of industrial ports, fishing ports, small craft harbours, marinas and tourist resorts
- navigation channel development, deepening and widening
- reclamation for ports, airports and other infrastructure projects
- maintenance dredging, beach recharge and coastal bypassing schemes
- trenching for immersed tube tunnels, pipeline landfalls, cables and outfalls
- dredging in rivers and estuaries, canals and inland waterways
- restoration of ponds and ornamental lakes, reservoir de-silting and remedial dredging and
- offshore aggregate dredging and lake mining.
Our involvement in these projects may vary from specific ad-hoc consultancies for discrete stages of development to advising on dredging-related matters throughout, including such matters as:
- preparation of tender and contract documentation, including specifications
- assistance in evaluation of tenders
- evaluation of dredger productivity and costs
- troubleshooting and claims evaluation and
- expert opinion in dispute resolution.
In addition, the Group has extensive experience of assessing the environmental aspects of dredging, relocation of dredged material and the impact of dredging and reclamation projects.
