UrbanFlood

UrbanFlood is a European project investigating the use of sensors within flood embankments to support an online early warning system, real time emergency management and routine asset management. Application of the concepts to support routine asset management, which includes the regular inspection of dikes, will also be considered. Safer dikes are not only stronger but also smarter dikes.

FloodProBE

HR Wallingford is partner of the European research project FloodProBE. The project is to provide cost-effective means for flood risk reduction in urban areas. To this end, FloodProBE will develop technologies, methods, concepts and tools for assessment purposes and for the adaptation of new and existing buildings and infrastructure.

FutureNet: UK Transport in 2050

HR Wallingford is partner of the FutureNet (Future Resilient Transport Networks) project. This four-year project, jointly funded by the Engineering and Physical Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council, will provide a vision and tools to assess and plan for the resilience of transport systems in future. HR Wallingford will participate to Work Packages 2, 3 and 5.

Dawlish wave overtopping forecasting service

HR Wallingford Wave Forecasting System uses advanced computer modelling techniques to give warnings of wave overtopping conditions at Dawlish. Request your login details to view current wave forecast indicating any possible service disruption. This is currently a trial demonstration service.

UK Climate Change Risk Assessment (UK CCRA)

HR Wallingford is leading a consortium for the first UK climate change risk assessment. The Consortium will prepare a report, referred to as UK CCRA, containing an assessment of the risks to the UK of the current and predicted impacts of climate change to 2100 (Image courtesy NASA)

Life Safety Model

Life Safety Model (LSM) is a simulation tool to model the interaction of flood wave with people and buildings. It helps emergency planners and responders in formulating emergency management plans
